Haha no ai (A Mother's Love)
In almost every manga, there is always some mother/child relationship. From loving homes, to broken ones, every manga and anime has a mother/child relationship within them that creates the undertones of the story. Hiromi Dollase argues in his article, "Choosing Your Family: Reconfiguring Gender and Familial Relationships in Japanese Popular Fiction", that fantasy can solve the issue of the mother/child relationships. Within manga and anime, the use of fantasy creates a false image
of a real home and distorts what real life between a mother and child may be like. He continues with his argument that the women manga-ka of today have taken into consideration the traditions of society and have set out to change the view of women through the use of fantasy in their works. This idea has reconfigured the idea of gender and the family system by showing how everyone, not just women, can interact with one another.

Yasuko (Toradora!): Hard working mom but no time for her son- Yasuko is very hard working but at the same time, a little lazy. She works all night as a waitress and escort(non-sexual) and sleepsmost of the day. Ryuji, her son, takes care of her; he cooks, cleans and does all the domestic housework she is unable to do. Though she isn't a bad mother and loves her son very much, she does need to be taken care of most of the time and does little mothering. When Ryuji almost lets the love of his life slip away, her motherly instincts finally show and she encourages him to go after her. Though the audience may feel a little bit skeptical towards her as a mother at first, eventually, she does show her strong emotions towards her son and lets the audience see her true feelings.
Shizue (Kekkaishi): Uses force to help her children grow-
Shizue is funny and loving, will kill bugs with her slippers, and isn't afraid to hit the boys with them when they act up. She cares for her family and does a lot of the domestic activities rather than being involved with the magic that flows in her family-she leaves that to her mother and daughter to take care of. She may be a little bit more violent then the audience is used to, but since this is a fantasy anime, it's more comical than harsh. She uses some force in order to get obedience from her children while also showing them that she still loves them.

Trisha Elric (FullMetal Alchemist): Self-sacrificng mother-
Trisha loves her sons so much and would do anything for them. She does all the domestic duties and raises her two boys by herself when her husband walks out on them. She is hardly, if ever, angry with him and instead is guilty that she couldnt' keep her promise to wait for him whe she dies first. Because she is a great and loving mother, her sons, Ed and Al, try to bring her back from the dead. She's the type of mother the audience can really relate to because she is the ultimate mother figure-kind, caring, loving, self-sacrificing...everything she does is for the love and protection of her children.

Cecilie Von Spitzweg (Kyo kara maoh): Blind to everyone's feelings but her own type of mother-
She is pretty much exactly like the mom from the music video and song, "Stacey's Mom" by Fountains of Wayne. She acts like a boy hungry teenager and flirts with her sons male fiancé, then pouts when she doesn't get her way. She does love her son and shows it often by hugging him, but she is so used to everyone doing as she says that she doesn't take into consideration the feelings of the people around her.

Aya (Ceres): Hopeful mother-
At the end of the manga series, Aya realizes that her husband is
going to die while also finding out that she will be a mother. She's made peace with her husband's death and just wants the best for their baby. She wants their child to have a good mother who can tell stories of how good his or her father was. Though her motherhood is brief, her love for their child shines bright and allows the audience to know that she will be the best mother she possibly can for their child.

Usagi (Tail of the Moon): A loving mother with life lessons to teach- Though Usagi is clumsy, a little dim-witted, and isn't really the perfect and composed mothers that some are, she still loves her children with a fierce passion. She would do anything for her children and when people speak badly about them or do something that might harm them, she is quick to defend and protect her children and give those nay sayers a piece of her mind. The audience is able to relate to Usagi as a mother-through the stories, Usagi grows from an ignorant girl, to a wise woman who not only learns lessons along the way, but teaches what she learns to her
children. Her motherly instincts and love for her children can inspire the
audience to have the same tendencies towards their children.

Kisaki’s Mother (Mistress fortune): The mother who wants to be a friend instead of a parent-
Though barely seen, when she is in the picture, Kisaki's mom is
like an over grown teenager. She always gets excited when the boss of PSI comes to their house and blushes in his presence. She seems like a flighty mom and the audience isn't sure whether they may like her or not. But she is a very supporting mother and loves her daughter very much. This is evident when she continually encourages Kisaki in everything she does, including going to America to work in their PSI corporation.

Aine (Sensual Phrase): Strict yet loving mother-
Through Aine and Sakuya's love story, Aine matures and grows into a responsible woman. Though she is still a little ditsy at the end, once she becomes a mother, she is definitely more strict than her husband. She looks out for all the people she loves and makes sure they are all happy. Another self-sacrificing mother, she is stern when she needs to be and tries to keep everyone happy, even if she isn't. Aine is a great rold model for the female audience to go by.

in the right place and all she wants is for the people she loves to be happy and well. The audience automatically gets sucked into Maron's character-her love for her friends and family, the willingness to give up her happiness for others, and the overall determination to have good triumph over evil makes it easy to relate to her and her actions.

Inuyasha's mom (Inuyasha) The single parent-
Inuyasha's mom is mostly soft spoken and keeps to herself. She was in love with Inuyasha's father but because she is human, she is shunned by his people. Though Inuyasha becomes shunned for being a half-breed, his mother's love is what shelters him from most of the hate in the world. She takes care of him, loves him, and keeps him from being lonely
until the day she died. Though Inuyasha's mom wasn't as incorporated in the anime, she still played an important role of raising her only child without the help of his father's people or his father. The audience may be interested in the rest of the anime, but Inuyasha's mom still captivates the hearts of the audience through her use of perseverance in hard times.
