The Cute-Innocents
The Children
Children are the most innocent of all anime girls. Sometimes they may act bratty and out of hand, but underneath their rude behavior, is a child who only wants to be loved. These little girls are sweet and shy and bond easily with older people. They bond with women like big sisters, or mothers, but they bond with men as future husbands. They are adorable when they talk about marrying their “big brothers”. They get jealous of women who show interest in their love and act out accordingly. These little girls are very affectionate and cute. They sing songs, dance around and cause some interesting scenarios to take place.
Yuzuyu from aishiteruze baby is a great example of this. She was abandoned by her mother and taken in by Kippei and his family. Kippei is responsible for watching over her and has to cut back on his playboy
ways to take care of Yuzuyu. He learns to cook her lunches, takes her to school and plays with her. Yuzuyu has abandonment issues and is always waiting for her mother to come back. She falls in love with Kippei and wants to be around him all the time. In the end her mother comes back to take care of her and Yuzuyu leaves with her. Kippei is heartbroken, but believes that it would be better for Yuzuyu to have her mother around. Yuzuyu creates adorable moments, between her and Kippei but also causes him some trouble. Yuzuyu helps Kippei grow as a person while at the same time charming the audience with her adorable nature.

The Cute/Innocent Teenager
Teenagers nowadays are no longer as innocent as they used to be. They know a great deal more about sex and relationships, which is a good thing as well as a bad one. Teens should not be ignorant of what happens between men and women. They should know some things, but that does not mean they have to be overly experienced. In anime/manga the girls are usually very innocent. The heroes of the story are usually their first boyfriends, first kiss and first love. These girls know very little about what happens in a relationship and get embarrassed easily.
Noriko, a girl seen in From far away, is very naïve. She knows very little about the world around her and constantly needs protection. When people say that she is Izark’s woman she becomes embarrassed
and blushes furiously. She doesn’t know how to deal with her feelings for Izark and is always afraid that she is bringing him nothing but trouble. When she and Izark finally accept their feelings for each other, the way they show it is innocent. They kiss and hold each other but it doesn’t get any racier than that. These girls are pure, and love only makes them more so.

The Pathetic Innocent
There is a trend in anime/manga where the girls gain sympathy from both their love interests and audience by being, for lack of a better word, pathetic. These girls usually have little to nothing, and struggle to survive. The thing that makes these girls adorable is their strength of character. They are happy and try their best at everything they do. Their humble surroundings and circumstances makes the people around her want to protect her and make sure
she is alright.
Tohru from Fruits Basket is an example of this. When he mother dies she begins living in a tent so that she will not be a burden for her grandparents. When a classmate Yuki stumbles upon her he offers her a place in his home. He and his cousins Kyo and Shigure welcome her warmly and scold her family for allowing her to live in a tent. Kukhee Choo from the article, “Girls Return Home” says, “In Fruits Basket, Toru’s kawaiso (pitiful) life her struggle to earn her meagerly wage as a night janitor*is glossed over by her kawaii attitude: a smiley, absent-minded and childlike behaviour. Toru’s overcompensating behaviour further entices the Soma family members and her friends to feel more sympathetic towards her. Even though Toru experiences more hardship than her friends Arisa and Saki, both of whom are considered marginalised by Japanese society for being a gangster and a‘goth’, it is Toru who offers emotional support to both of them by being optimistic and innocent.Even though Toru works amongst older women at a tough night job, she is not jaded by the harshness of her reality and maintains her ‘cute’ attitude.” (284-285)
These girls are so earnest and trusting that they make you want to protect them. The men want to do everything in their power to change their life for the better. And the readers want to see these girls get a better life. They know that these girls try their best and want to see their hard work pay off.
she is alright.
